Soldering IronOwning a soldering iron can be hard sometimes, but it doesn’t have to be. We know that people have questions regarding the tips of a soldering iron and whether or not they are replaceable, are they hard to find, the variety they come in, and different levels of wattage a soldering iron might have. When it comes to the tip of a soldering iron, are the replaceable? The tips of a soldering iron get damaged with consistent and normal use. You will eventually need to replace then. However, you do not want to have to but a new soldering iron just for this purpose. So make sure when you get one the first time you are able to switch them out. Ask questions if you are unsure about what you are getting. Are the tips that a soldering iron easily available or will they be hard to find? Sometimes you will have no problem finding the tips you need, and sometimes you will. Depending on what type of soldering iron you get, you might have to stock up on replacement tips just so you can be prepared for when you need them. The last thing you want is to have a hard time finding replacement tips.

What type of variety do tips come in with a soldering iron? The tips they come with are going to vary. However, if you want something general try looking for the needle point conical tip. The needle-point conical tips works pretty well. You will want to make sure you have different kinds though. Make sure you have a screwdriver tip, a chisel tip and a needle-point conical. This should prove to be enough.  Does the level of wattage make for a better soldering iron? We would probably say that the answer is no. The wattage gives the soldering iron the ability to heat up an object. You want to have a respectable amount of wattage, but be warned that having too much can end up burning out other components. You might boil your flux before it ever gets the chance to clean certain components.

So what is the best amount of wattage to have for your soldering iron? I would say that if you are an average user, try to go for no more than 45 watts. If you are a solderer that has a bit more experience, then you can go for about 60 watts. Keep in mind that these are just my recommendations, you can decide to go with whatever amount you feel you need.
